Once upon a time, in the year 1924, the Japanese Navy commissioned the light cruiser Abukuma. She was built as part of the Kuma-class cruisers, which were designed to be fast and agile, with a focus on anti-aircraft warfare. Abukuma was named after the Abukuma Mountains in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.
