MATURE. Adults only. Every named and speaking character is an adult with an age on the page: Ewan Rooke 44, Nell Rooke 41, Yusra Mughal 39, Colin Ahearne 52, Deirdre Rooke 39, Marjorie Rooke 71, Tammi Okafor 33, Frances 58, Paul Kelsall 52. The youngest is 33. No minor appears in any role, memory, photograph, joke, announcement, plan, or future reference. Themes: a fourteen-day cooling-off period under section nine of the Transfer Registration Act 2021, offered on 5 November 2034 and closing at 17:00 on 19 November. A build that is an account and not a copy, assembled in descending order of share, in which the largest share is the Resident and everything else is what the company calls the Contents. A woman who is thirty-nine per cent of her husband's document and has signed nothing about it out loud. A registrar who has written down which person is which two thousand nine hundred and fourteen times. A sever clause on page four that is a chore on the fifth of the month and gone by the ninth, closed by a capture session the protagonist booked himself. A surrender instrument that takes ninety days and produces a filing in his own name. A care home on Marsden Road and an aside about a budgie. And a written sexual encounter on the tenth night, asked for and agreed in words out loud, with the form on the bedside table throughout, after which the sentence is still unsaid. Sexual content: both partners are adults, each says what he or she wants and what stops it before anything begins, either can stop it with one word, and one of them does use the word in the middle of the scene and is obeyed in the middle of a sentence. The scene is written in full and is specific to these two people. It is not a reward and it is not a cure, and the person it happens with is the person who signed the agreement with a pencil. No civic choice is gated on it and no ending is unlocked by it. Nobody in this novel lies to anybody about a fact; the damage is done by two accurate people who will not be first. There is a death in the future tense: a scan on 19 October 2034 found a 1.9 centimetre lesion in the right uncus with an aggressive signal, and the neurosurgeon did not soften it, and the man is going to die in 2036. Nobody dies on the page, no injury is depicted, and no method of anything is described. No slur is written; prejudice appears as a colleague's assumption about a man who signs things, and only in what she does with it. Bramhall, Expiry Transfer Limited, the Old Grammar, the Bramhall Register Office, Field and Searle and the Transfer Registration Act 2021 are invented. All music is instrumental, lyrics are empty, and vocal playback is disabled. No image, audio, or video file is generated, fetched, or bundled with this project.
