MATURE. Every named character is an adult: Nell Ardery 39, Amos Reeder 42, Ivet Sowerby 88, Hettie Akroyd 61, Derryck Sowerby 66, Cal Merrick 31, Fenella Quigley 46, Verity Okafor-Stannard 34, Joss Prentice 34, Wesley Dalbeattie 61, Peter Nowak 58. No minor appears in any role. The child referred to in the book exists only as seven pencil lines and an eighth that was ruled and never marked; no child is depicted, described, or present. Themes: a house in a North Yorkshire village that gives a person once the room they would have had rather than the room they want; a married couple of 39 and 42 who both know exactly what the house does and agreed out loud never to discuss it; one sentence neither has said since 17 February 2015; a building control officer who spends that sentence by describing a room accurately on a statutory form in her own name; and a planning decision notice that is technically correct and destroys every professional route into her own house. The person the protagonist wants is the person who spent the sentence in 2015 and cannot be separated from that, and the protagonist is the reason the room is wrong. One course of action open on page one is shut in Act Two by the protagonist, and the person shut out of it is a 31-year-old apprentice. Includes a lost child, coercive and loving marital conflict, one act of cruelty that is not forgiven, professional misconduct by a public officer, a public register entry that outlives her posting, and a written sexual scene between two consenting married adults on terms said out loud in the room beforehand, which is never a reward and costs the last use of a word. Stopping is one sentence and is available at every moment. No slur is written out. No death, no injury, and no ending that undoes the damage. Every place, institution, and person is fictional. No content in this project is generated or fetched at build time.
