Every named and speaking character is an adult and the age is on the page: Signe Vatne 38, Hallvard Vatne 41, Ragnhild Tveit 54, Einar Sandvik 63, Bente Hovden 47, Joakim Rise 24, Oda Sætre 27, Gunnar Vold 58, Liv Bakken 67, and the four women who drowned were 62, 34, 49 and 28. No minor appears in any role, memory, photograph, joke, announcement, plan, or future reference. Four deaths by drowning, described through police documents, veterinary necropsies, a rescue crew and a kitchen conversation; no injury is depicted and no method of injury, of weapon use, of drug preparation, or of entering a building or of entering water is described. A rifle bullet is a veterinary finding in a report. Explicit sex between Signe and Hallvard, both adults, who say what they want and what stops it in their own words before anything begins and may stop it at any point; the scenes are written on the page in full and are not a reward, and the one they cost is a pact and a name. Sex gates no civic choice and unlocks no ending. Coercion by custom, family grief, professional disgrace, a village that stops saying a woman's name, and a marriage permanently damaged by two people being honest with each other. Prejudice appears as an assumption about a woman who took a name, a man with a boat and no work, and a village that counts itself, and is shown only through what people do with it; no slur is written. Fictional village, fjord, house, people and documents. All music is instrumental, vocal playback is disabled, and lyrics are empty. No media is generated, fetched, or bundled with this project.
