Content notice — MATURE

MATURE. Adults only. Every named character is an adult with an age on the page: Wren Aldiss 41, Bo Ferreira 43, Priti Sandhu 37, Ruairi Donnelly 58, Ngozi Iwu 74, Yvette Okonjo-Hall 52, Marianne Holt 24, Rosalind Aldiss 69, Kofi Mensah 29, Teodor Blaga 46, Harriet Vane 47, Chidi Ferreira 34, Tasha Aldiss 40. Adaeze Ferreira is 71 and dies in Lagos on 11 March 2025, three months after the first page; her death is described in a letter and is not depicted. The youngest is 24. No minor appears in any role, memory, photograph, joke, announcement, plan or future reference. Themes: a late civil registration made in Nigeria in 1991 that names a boy after a rent collector; a marriage solemnised on that registration in 2014 by a registrar and two witnesses; eleven years in which neither adult said the sentence; a name discharged in open court in June 2025 while a marriage survives as an entry and dies as a copy; a woman of 74 who wrote the original slip and has had a stroke; a rule on a laminated card that the protagonist wrote and taught and that delayed the discovery by eleven months; a woman's body that is not the body it was after a hysterectomy at 36; a joint tenancy sold in April in all five futures; and the ordinary hours afterwards at four in the morning with everything still on the table. Sexual content: Wren and Bo are both adults, both married eleven years, and both say out loud what they want, what they will not, and what stops it before anything begins, and either can stop it with one word. There are three scenes. The first spends the only night on which the question could have been asked. The second spends the hour after a name has left a register. The third spends a name said out loud in a bed, and one of the three is the word being said and nothing happening. No scene is a reward and none is a cure. No civic choice is gated on the intimacy and no ending is unlocked by it. No weapon, drug, or method of entering a building is described. No slur is written; prejudice appears as a correction, a referral, a laminated card, a shop window, and a bay window at a counter, and is shown only in what it costs the person on the receiving end. Fictional town, office, firm, court, home, hospital and documents. All music is instrumental, vocal playback is disabled, and lyrics are empty. No content in this project is generated or fetched at build time.
