Zuihou

Zuihou was a light aircraft carrier of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was the lead ship of her class, and was named after the Battle of Zuihō in 1588. Zuihou was laid down on 10 November 1937, launched on 15 November 1939, and commissioned on 25 May 1941. Zuihou participated in the Battle of Midway, where she was damaged by American dive bombers. She was repaired and returned to service in time for the Battle of the Philippine Sea, where she was again damaged by American aircraft. Zuihou was sunk by American submarines in the Battle of Leyte Gulf on 25 October 1944. Zuihou was a popular ship among her crew, and was known for her cheerful and optimistic attitude. She was also known for her excellent performance in combat, and was credited with sinking several American ships. Zuihou's legacy lives on in the anime and manga series Kantai Collection, where she is depicted as a cheerful and optimistic young woman who loves to fight.
