Toshiaki SHIMIZU

Toshiaki Shimizu is a Japanese film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for his work on the horror films Ju-On: The Grudge (2002) and its sequels, as well as the anime series Manhole (2004). Shimizu was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1968. He studied film at Nihon University, and after graduating he worked as an assistant director on several films, including the 1998 horror film Ringu. In 2002, Shimizu made his directorial debut with the film Ju-On: The Grudge. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it spawned a series of sequels and remakes. Shimizu also directed the 2004 anime series Manhole, which was based on the manga of the same name. Shimizu's films are often characterized by their dark and disturbing atmosphere, and they often feature supernatural elements. He is considered to be one of the most influential horror directors of his generation. In addition to his work in film, Shimizu has also directed several music videos and commercials.
