Maiasaura

Maiasaura is a genus of hadrosaurid dinosaur that lived in what is now North America during the Late Cretaceous period. It was a large, duck-billed dinosaur with a long neck and a wide, toothless beak. Maiasaura was a herbivore and its diet probably consisted of leaves, shoots, and other plant material. Maiasaura was a social animal and lived in herds of up to 100 individuals. The young were cared for by the adults in the herd, who would protect them from predators and help them to find food. Maiasaura was a successful dinosaur and lived for over 10 million years. It is one of the best-known dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous period. Maiasaura was discovered in 1979 by paleontologist Jack Horner. The name Maiasaura means "good mother lizard". This name was given to the dinosaur because of the evidence that the adults in the herd cared for the young. Horner found nests of Maiasaura eggs that were surrounded by the bones of adult Maiasaura.
