Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard is a fictional character in the 2004 Canadian-American military science fiction television series Stargate Atlantis. He is portrayed by Joe Flanigan and is the second-in-command of the Atlantis Expedition. Sheppard is a skilled soldier and pilot, and he is often the one who leads the team on dangerous missions. He is also a bit of a maverick, and he often does things his own way.
