Kazuki Mutou is a high school student who is also an alchemist. He wields an oversized weapon called a Buso Renkin, which is a combination of a weapon and a philosopher's stone. Kazuki is a skilled alchemist and a brave fighter, and he is always willing to help those in need. He is also a kind and compassionate person, and he cares deeply for his friends and family. One day, Kazuki's best friend, Tokiko Tsumura, is attacked by a mysterious creature. Kazuki comes to her rescue, but he is defeated by the creature. Tokiko then reveals that she is an alchemist, and she tells Kazuki that he is also an alchemist.
