Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc was born into a peasant family in the small village of Domrémy, France in 1412. From a young age, she had visions of saints and angels who told her to help the French king, Charles VII, defeat the English who had occupied much of northern France. Despite being ridiculed by her family and neighbors, Joan followed her divine calling and traveled to the royal court where she convinced the king to let her lead an army against the English.
