Alp Arslan was born in 1029 in the city of Merv, which was part of the powerful Seljuk Empire. His father, Chagri Beg, was a prominent military commander who served under the Seljuk sultan Tughril. From a young age, Alp Arslan showed great promise as a warrior and was trained in the art of combat by his father.
