He is also the creator of the NerveGear, a device that allows players to control their avatars in the game with their thoughts. Kayaba is a high-stakes game master who is not afraid to put his players in danger. He is also a skilled manipulator who is able to get players to do his bidding. In the anime, Kayaba is the main antagonist who traps players in Sword Art Online and forces them to play the game or die. He is eventually defeated by Kirito and Asuna, but his legacy continues to haunt the world of Sword Art Online.
